Research & Work
Hongjing “Jing” Spaaij works at the intersection of spatial design, social equity, and participatory urban development. Her thesis on placemaking for aging in place in The Hague Southwest reflects a commitment to inclusive, community-shaped environments. She has explored themes including the just energy transition, procedural justice, and citizen science. Jing also gained hands-on experience working directly with residents in superdiverse neighborhoods such as Oud-Mathenesse in Rotterdam and The Hague Southwest. Drawn to projects that merge critical inquiry with hands-on engagement, she aims to bridge design and policy, using urbanism as a tool for fairer, more responsive cities.
